Before you rent

First impressions count — even on a phone.

Great listings start with great photos. To attract more tenants and rent your property faster, your images need to be clear, well-lit, and inviting.

Always shoot in landscape (horizontal) format — it shows off space better and looks best in listings.
Use a decent smartphone with a clean lens and good camera (most phones made after 2018 will do the job perfectly).

You don’t need pro gear — just good light, a little prep, and these simple tips.

Here’s how to make your space shine:

1. Clean and declutter first

Tidy spaces photograph better. Remove mess, personal items, and anything distracting. Clean surfaces, make the bed, open the curtains.

2. Use natural light

Shoot during the day — ideally mid-morning or early afternoon.

  • Open all curtains and blinds

  • Turn off lights to avoid yellow tones

  • Let the daylight do the work

3. Shoot from the corners

Stand in the corner or doorway to capture more of the room.
Keep your phone level — not tilted — to avoid awkward angles.

Aim for:

  • 2–3 shots per room

  • A wide shot + a few key features (e.g. built-in storage, fireplace)

4. Shoot landscape, not portrait

Turn your phone sideways. Always.
Landscape photos show more of the room and look cleaner on the Homesty app and listing pages.

5. Highlight the features renters care about

Got a sunny balcony? Newly fitted kitchen? Generous wardrobe space? Make sure you capture it clearly — in good light and from the best angle.

6. Include the outside

Show a couple of shots of the exterior — front door, building, garden, or street. It builds trust and helps people picture themselves there.

Keep it honest

Skip the filters and exaggerations — clear, natural photos are what renters trust most. Show your property as it is, just in its best light.

Upload directly to Homesty

Once you’ve got your best 6–20 photos (minimum 6 if possible), simply upload them as part of your listing in the Homesty app. You can always come back and update later.
